I’m Alex Caval, and I’m running for District 24 Senator.
It is difficult to truly value freedom unless you have never had it. I was born in a communist country ruled by a dictator dubbed, “the Romanian fuhrer,” by Mikhail Gorbachev. Failed economic policies resulted in austerity for 20 million people in 1980s Romania.
Basic freedoms like speech, assembly, religion, and due process did not exist for the first five years of my life. The communist government used the brutal strength of the “Securitate” – a Romanian version of the Russian KGB or German Stasi– and its network of informants to keep a communist dictator in power by suppressing dissidence. Dissenters often disappeared off the streets and reappeared dead in a field. That was the world I was born into.
My family and I escaped communism and legally immigrated to the United States in 1988. We found refuge in Twin Falls.
We found a land rich with natural resources and a proud history of agriculture.
We found fantastic public schools with teachers that care and teach critical thinking rather than blind conformity.
We found civic-minded people who volunteer and serve their community for the purpose of making it better.
In the Magic Valley, we found home.

Agriculture
Agriculture - our farmers, ranchers, and dairymen – is the economic engine of the Magic Valley. It also forms the basis of our identity in the Magic Valley.
education
Education is important in the Magic Valley because it shapes the future generations that come after us. Every parent wants their child to receive a good education so that they have the foundational skills to seize opportunities as they come in life.
water
Water is the lifeblood of the Magic Valley. Without it, 200,000 would not be able to call the Magic Valley “home.”
infrastructure
The Magic Valley is home to 200,000 people and they are divided by the Snake River Canyon. The Magic Valley needs a third bridge across the Snake River and it needs to connect to US 93. US Highway 93 is a critical rural freight corridor with significant agricultural truck traffic.
